LCD screen
Getting to know your LCD screen
The LCD screen displays everything you need to know during each clean, including: the selected cleaning modes, the amount of particles being removed from the floor, your remaining run time, and alerts.
Beginning your clean
Your machine constantly measures the microscopic particles being picked up. These are displayed in a graph, grouped into four colour-coded size ranges: Microscopic, Fine, Medium, Coarse.
How the bars work
The bars grow and shrink, in real time, based on the volume of particles being removed as you clean. So you know when to keep cleaning, and when your floor area is clean.
What the bars mean
In Auto mode
Blue bars: High volume, increased suction
White bars: Medium volume
Green bars: Low volume
In all other modes, white bars also represent a high volume of particles.
After your clean
At the end of your clean, the screen displays a summary of the particles that have been removed. Giving you scientific proof of a deep clean.

FAQs about the LCD screen
The particle count is a scientific measurement of the debris in your bin. Each bar represents a different size of dust particle. The bars rise faster when more debris of that size is vacuumed.
Reactive suction power works with all powered attachments, including the Digital Motorbar™ cleaner head, the Fluffy Optic™ cleaner head, and the Hair screw tool.
Yes. The graph works independently of the attachments, and can be used with all cleaner heads, tools and accessories.
The bars on the graph will slow down and turn green to show that less debris is being picked up, letting you know your area is clean.

Cleaner heads
Getting to know your cleaner heads
Your Dyson Gen5detect™ vacuum is engineered to operate with two cleaner heads, for different floor surfaces.
-
Digital Motorbar™ cleaner head
The Digital Motorbar™ cleaner head's Dynamic Load Sensing technology intelligently adapts suction power to different floors, while in Auto mode. Hair removal vanes automatically de-tangle hair from the brush bar as you clean.
-
Fluffy Optic™ cleaner head
New Fluffy Optic™ cleaner head illuminates the microscopic dust and dirt on hard floors. Anti-static carbon fibre filaments remove fine dust from hard floors and narrow gaps.
FAQs about cleaner heads
The blade of light is optimised to work on any smooth, hard floor – including white surfaces and wood laminate. Illumination is visible in most well-lit spaces. Direct sunlight (around 10,000+ lux) is not possible to outshine.
Yes.
The de-tangling comb on the brush bar has 56 polycarbonate teeth to prevent tangling around the bristles. The comb is always in contact with the brush bar as it spins to prevent wrapping, so hair is sucked straight into the bin.

Overfilling the bin can reduce suction and affect the accuracy of the particle count. To maintain suction, empty as soon as debris reaches the MAX marker.
-
How to check for blockages
Your LCD screen will alert you if there's a blockage in your machine's airways. On-screen animation shows you which airflow pathways to check.
FAQs about maintenance
Your machine will pulse seven times to alert you if there's a blockage. You can follow the animated guide on your LCD screen to clear it.
The LCD screen on your machine will remind you when it's time to clear your filter. This will usually be around once a month, but may be more frequent if you use your machine more heavily. After cleaning the filter, always leave it to dry for at least 24 hours. You must ensure it's completely dry before refitting. We recommend following the cleaning instructions and cleaning by hand. The filter is not suitable for dishwasher use.
